The drought in the Western Cape had a huge affect in 2017 and 2018, leaving our fauna and foliage dried and brittle in it’s wake. Our Founder Matanna Katz couldn’t help but still try to find the beauty in the golden hues, whimsical shapes and colour palettes consisting of burnt sienna, chestnut, fawn, oat, clay, parchment and cherry wood. She wanted to find a way to embrace her surroundings and the alchemy of it’s ethereal qualities.

Matanna looked to the Japanese concept

Wabi-Sabi (侘寂) which embraces a state of being that accepts the beauty of imperfections and the natural cycle of life’s growth and decay.

With this in mind Matanna created a Christmas table setting that encompassed the concept of Wabi-Sabi (our drought) to show others that we could still find that raw element of beauty and hopefully to encourage them to create their own drought inspired Christmas tables.
